HOW MUSIC INFLUENCE YOUNG LEARNERS

As a great fun of music, I always try to enrich my lessons with some musical pieces. It is not only about listening, but also about the engagement in learning through songs that gives us pretty much endless opportunities to do so. The variety of songs for young learners is huge; from those based on pure relaxation, to those created for the typical educational purposes. In this article, I would like to present the advantages of using sounds and their undeniable importance in the process of teaching.

MUSIC AND RHYTHM

Children love to learn some rhythmic structure. They start from clapping the simple rhythmic patterns, usually based on words, f.eg. “mo-ther”, “grand-pa-rents” or children’s names “Ha-nia”, “Mi-ko-łaj”. There is a wide variety of songs typically created for the purpose of teaching rhythm. Here are some examples:

MUSIC AND ITS EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES

This is very simple – every song for children teaches them something. You can revise any type of vocabulary and structures with some music pieces. Here are, in my opinion, the most interesting examples:

MUSIC AND RELAXATION

Children really enjoy the moment of relaxation during the lesson. They lay down, close their eyes and imagine things that remind them of something positive. Then they sit and talk about the images created in their little heads. So much fun! Here are some great relaxation songs that help to calm children down:

I hope you like my ideas and they are going to be useful in your everyday music experience with your little ones. Remember that singing and dancing with your child is very important and the joy it brings, worth every moment of losing your breath while doing so.
